The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published the draft standard ISO/DIS 22000, marking an important milestone in the revision process of food safety management systems.
At this stage, the draft is submitted to national bodies for review, comments, and voting. Based on the feedback received, the document is revised by experts and subsequently issued as an FDIS (Final Draft International Standard) — the final version submitted for approval prior to the publication of the international standard.
Typically, this transition from DIS to FDIS takes place within a few months, followed by a short final approval period (approximately eight weeks), after which the standard is officially published.
The publication of ISO/DIS 22000 provides organizations with the opportunity to assess the proposed changes at an early stage and to prepare for the implementation of the new requirements, anticipating that the final version of the standard will be available within a relatively short period following the completion of the FDIS voting process.
