The revision of the standard introduces clarifications and improvements regarding the impartiality, competence and control of inspection processes
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published the new version of the ISO/IEC 17020:2026 standard, which sets out the requirements for the competence of bodies carrying out inspections.
The new edition (version 3) brings updates aimed at aligning the requirements with current developments in conformity assessment, placing additional emphasis on:
- impartiality and independence,
- risk-based approach,
- the use of digital technologies in inspection processes.
The revision of the standard aims to improve confidence in inspection services and ensure consistent application internationally.
Organizations certified according to the previous version are encouraged to analyze the new requirements and plan the transition in accordance with the deadlines to be established by the accreditation bodies.
